It’s fitting that we should celebrate World Water Day in the same month as we celebrate reaching a related Millennium Development Goal three years early.
The goal, set in September 2000, was to cut in half the proportion of people living without sustainable access to safe drinking water. The global community was to reach this goal by 2015, but we got there much sooner, thanks to God’s grace on Food for the Hungry and many others fighting for this cause.
FH contributed to this goal last year by bringing clean water and sanitation to 389,326 people in 568 communities across Asia, Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean.
We look back with gratitude to the God who gives every good gift, and we look forward to the roughly one billion people who still don’t have this basic human necessity.
