It’s true. We do all need love. And sometimes this need, gone unfulfilled, leads us to search for it in places that leave our hearts feeling like the victim of a back-alley mugging. Sadly – there is boundless love waiting for each of us, if we’d only learn that we don’t have to earn it.
Just simply be.
I know the truth, and I often find myself in that state of “earning.” It’s such an unfathomable concept – love that is not earned. Through good and bad, faults, failures and success.
Now in case you didn’t catch it, I’m referring to God’s love for us. But let’s bring in another level that might be more tangible and yet is just a scaled-down version. Love in a relationship.
I recently heard a man speaking about “wearing a mask” while on a date. He said the woman would fall in love with him and as he became comfortable he would slowly start to take off the mask and show his true self. But since the woman fell in love with the mask and not the man, she became confused by the new man who was reveled. In the end his mask caused his ultimate rejection and yet he couldn’t stop wearing that mask.
A light bulb turned on for me. Not only in romantic relationships, but really any relationships – including with God – be authentic.

Excellent post!
