Picture your church in Mozambique

Where can you find some of the world’s most beautiful beaches and many of the world’s poorest people? You might be surprised to hear that it’s Mozambique. On the eastern coast of the continent of Africa, Mozambique is a land of contrasts. The natural beauty of Mozambique is consistently rated among the most stunning in the world, but according to the United Nations Human Development Report, Mozambique’s Human Development Index is the third lowest in the world.

I have yet to visit Mozambique, but I have been deeply touched by reading stories about two of its regions: Caia and Cabo Delgado. Today I’m highlighting these two areas in Mozambique where Food for the Hungry is inviting your church to partner. The needs in these regions are severe, but by sponsoring children, your church can inspire hope, transform communities, and end poverty.

Orphan care needed in Caia

If your church has discovered God’s heart for orphan care, Caia, Mozambique could be the place for you. Many children in Caia have been orphaned or are at risk of becoming orphaned. We place the highest priority on finding sponsors for these children.

Caia is a place with severe needs. Education, health care, and food are scarce. Ancestor worship leads to fear-ridden beliefs. The rural churches of Caia are under-resourced to meet needs in their own communities.

Your church’s partnership in Caia would provide desperately needed support—both physical and emotional—to children, families and churches in the region. You can read more about Caia in this PDF document. Then, when you’re ready, contact our Church Engagement department to schedule your first sponsorship Sunday.

Unreached, desperate families in Cabo Delgado

Download a 2-page summary of Cabo Delgado, Mozambique.

If your church has a heart for the poorest of the poor and the unreached, please consider Cabo Delgado, Mozambique. Cabo Delgado is Mozambique’s poorest province. This means that it’s the neediest place of one of the world’s neediest countries! But beyond the physical suffering, Cabo Delgado is a place of deep spiritual help. There is very little Christian witness in the region, and the few churches that do exist there are struggling.

The children of Cabo Delgado suffer from high infant mortality and low literacy rates. Life expectancy is low.

Where can we find hope for a place like Cabo Delgado? Hope is found in God, who created each person in this province “fearfully and wonderfully” (Psalm 139:14 NIV). He is already moving in hearts and minds in Cabo Delgado. Food for the Hungry is ready to intervene. Child sponsorship is the first step to making this intervention possible.

Will you be His hands and feet to reach Mozambique? You can read more about Cabo Delgado in this PDF document. When you’re ready to begin your partnership, contact us for child sponsorship packets.

Take the next step

There are few places in the world with needs as great as those in Mozambique. But I am reminded that even as my heart breaks for the people of Caia and Cabo Delgado, God loves them infinitely more than I can imagine.

Will you pray specifically with me for churches who will partner in Mozambique? (And if your church is that church, contact me here.)
