At these classes, mothers learn about what to feed their children for optimum health and how to treat illnesses.
While I was getting to know the mothers, I saw Amalia helping a beautiful little girl. She taught her how to walk and showed her love. This little girl trusted Amalia, because she felt loved.
Amalia lived out Food for the Hungry’s mission in that moment. FH’s mission is to walk with churches, leaders and families in overcoming all forms of human poverty by living in healthy relationship with God and His creation.
The job of walking with those living in poverty is about intimacy and caring for each other. It is developing a relationship. Many of the children we work with also build important, life-changing relationships with their sponsors.
In walking with others, one should follow Jesus’ example of walking with His disciples. It takes dedication. Jesus chose to be present in that time in our history. He didn’t just send a quick note or create flashy, spectacular miracle.
Amalia did this with this little girl. She took the time to know her and gain her confidence. She was committed to helping teach her how to walk and did it with so much care. She does this with all the children she interacts with on a daily basis.
Food for the Hungry believes it’s through relationships that change can happen—we’ve seen it work time and time again.
I invite you to come and walk with us in this transformation by sponsoring a child. You can teach your child how to walk through life by sending them encouraging words.
Your effort in cultivating a relationship with your child is joining our work to end poverty. Together, we can truly inspire hope and make a difference.
