Sagebrush Church: Reaching Children

So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God who gives the growth.  – 1 Corinthians 3:7 (ESV)

Recently, my colleague Heidi Heinrich and I went to Albuquerque, N.M. We spent some time with the amazing staff of Sagebrush Community Church, one of Food for the Hungry’s (FH) partner churches.

In the last several years, the partnership between FH and Sagebrush has accomplished some incredible work in the Philippines and Ethiopia. Sagebrush sent mission teams to the community of Oitu, Ethiopia to build amazing projects that made a difference in the lives of many children.

Most recently, Sagebrush started the beginning stages of a three-phase project in Oitu, starting with the construction of a new school building. As the church was starting their time in Oitu, they did a sponsorship Sunday at their church in Albuquerque and ended up sponsoring more than 600 children in one weekend.

In November 2013, when Typhoon Haiyan devastated the Philippines, Sagebrush responded once again and partnered with FH on a disaster-relief trip. Because of that trip, Sagebrush also started sponsoring a second community in Camarines Norte, Philippines.

Two weekends ago, we came together again and did a sponsorship Sunday where an additional 400 children from that community got sponsored.

Throughout the weekend at Sagebrush, I became very aware of something. It was evident to me that God loves partnerships. God Himself is the heart of divine partnerships, pumping life into what He chooses and giving growth where He wills it to take place.

FH can have the best programs, offering the best services, and spreading hope all around the world.  Just the same, there can be churches that have amazing programs and services to offer to their congregations. But it is only when God interweaves Himself and brings partners together with eternal bonds… that a truly God-breathed, supernatural gift of partnership comes to life.

In FH’s church engagement department, we continually pray that the Lord will continue to open opportunities so that we may be connected to new partner churches. Would you please join us in that prayer?

And would you join us in our search for partner churches? If you would like to refer a church or are part of a church, we’d love to talk to you. It’s easy. You fill out a form, and we’ll contact you to give you more information.

May the Lord continue to bless our partnerships together for the advancement of His Kingdom and for His glory alone. God bless you, today!
